Characters and objects represented. Swallow, oriole, and woodpecker. Barn, nest, and tree.
First Verse.
In one end of ring four children join hands for barn. In one corner of barn one child makes the nest. The swallow tiies about pretending to build nest of leaves and straw and plasters it with mud.
Second Verse. A child from the ring now steps forward and represents the tree with arms swaying for boughs. The oriole now flies from the ring and after flitting about a little, hangs up her nest on one of the swaying boughs of the tree.
Third Verse.
As the third verse begins the tree stands still with swaying arms, while the woodpecker hammers and pounds his nest up on one of the branches.
Fourth Verse.
As the last verse commences the children all take their places in ring and sing; each child going through the motions of digging with pickax, hammering upon the tioor with fists, and driving in nails. They then turn to little tailors, and make the motions of sewing, threading needles, and pressing smooth the clothes.

Characters and objects represented. Pigeons, pigeon-house and meadow.
First Verse.
Several children join hands and form pigeon-house in centre of ring. Within the house are the pigeons, who as the song begins rly through the door in pairs and into the centre of ring, which is the meadow. As the verse ends they all coo softly.
